The Views of the Thames stile free circular walks will introduce you to the beautiful countryside of the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which lies just north west of London, easily reached on a short train journey.

To get the walk:

  1. Install the Handheld Tours app (free) – iTunes App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Select tour using list or map view
  3. Click download button
  4. Enjoy an excellent day out!

The Scenic Route takes you from picturesque Goring up into the Chiltern Hills. You will pass through beech woodlands and through a chalk grassland nature reserve with panoramic views over the Thames Valley. The return leg to Goring is flat, along the River Thames. The walk is easy going, though you will need to cross the railway via a footbridge and navigate some hilly but beautiful sections at the start. The Flat route is shorter, avoids the hilly start but visits the main points of interest you would see on the Scenic Route.

Goring is a small picturesque village at the foot of hills separated by the River Thames. There are several pubs serving food, restaurants, cafes, local shops, accommodation and a Youth Hostel. There is a regatta during the summer. Public toilets are located in Goring car park. There are no toilets or refreshments on the walks outside of the villages.

For Goring and Streatley visitor information click here, or for more walks and rides in the Chilterns see the Chilterns AONB website.

Fun for the kids
The Flat Route includes quiz questions to keep the children entertained. Look out for the Brain Bugs on the map!

Please be considerate in the countryside:

  • keep to public rights of way, and leave farm gates as you find them.
  • please keep dogs under close control and on leads where animals are grazing.
